How are Maxigrip studs fitted?
Hard-metal studs - for vehicles
Installed and removed easily with the included special adapter. The adapter is set as standard to give a stud protrusion of 3mm. The protrusion may vary depending on the resistance of the rubber so readjustment may be necessary. However, the installation method is easily learnt. To remove the HM stud, simply adjust the depth-stop on the adapter backwards. Even badly worn studs can be extracted.
Basic Rule
Make sure that the stud you use has a 1mm margin between the length and the tyre's tread depth. That is, for an 18 mm stud, the minimum rubber tread depth is 17 mm. Cord thickness varies between 4-20mm depending on tire type. If in doubt - choose a shorter model.
ATTENTION! The stud's threads must be screwed into the rubber. Do not install in any gap or prefabricated stud holes in the tyre treads.
Count the number of lugs on the tire and draw up a fitting strategy for the best results.
X-model - for shoes
Use a regular Phillips screwdriver or preferably an electric screwdriver with a Phillips bit. Screw the stud until only a couple of millimeters protrude. Then the head gets good support against the sole. Remove similarly with screwdriver bit or pincers.
