Frequently Asked Questions about MaxiGrip studs

Will the studs stay in the tire?
If they are fitted according to the instructions provided they will remain fixed, even in extreme conditions.
The MaxiGrip stud has been thoroughly tested and developed over five years. It has been tested on everything from tractors and off-road motorcycles to snow scooters and boots.

Do they cause punctures?
No, but ensure that the tread depth is adequate prior to fitting.
Large tires normally have a good margin, but never use a stud that is longer than the tread depth of the tire. The stud should be fitted so that 3 mm is visible above the tire surface to ensure that the wheel cord remains unaffected.

How many studs do I need?
We recommend around 100 studs per tractor tire, and 2-3 studs per contact patch. There are normally around 40 contact patches on each tire regardless of its diameter.
Industrial tires normally require 150 studs per tire.
Trucks and ATVs normally require 50-100 studs per tire.
We recommend 70-100 studs per tire for Cross and Enduro bikes.

These figures are intended as guidelines only. The customer's specific needs and situation will ultimately determine the actual requirements.

Can the studs be fitted into the same holes again?
Yes, this is possible. With the exception of soft rubber wheels (often smaller wheels). It is easy to recognise if this is possible when fitting the studs.

How do you dismount a worn stud?
Adjust the stop-ring on the fitting tool.

Will the stud last if I drive a lot on asphalt?
The HM-model is very durable; the X-model is designed for ice and gravel.
